GAS DETECTOR

  1. Applications : Instant Detection and Estimation of CO in mines and other industrial places.
  2. Salient Features :span> It generally conforms to Bureau of Indian Standards IS : 13293.The tubes are to be used in conjunction with our IPP Aspirator Pump. The tubes consist of two parts preliminary cleansing layer and indicating layer. Carbon Monoxide content is shown in the indicating layer, by changing the length of the color stain spreading. The Carbon Monoxide concentration is measured in ppm.
  3. Measuring Range :
    • a) 100 to 3000 ppm (0.01 to 0.3% by vol.);when N = 1 squeeze(50 cc).
    • b) : 10 to 300 pppm(0.001 to 0.03% by vol.); when N = 10 squeezes(500 cc.)
  4. Indication :span> White layer changes to brownish green stain and the length of stain will indicate the reading in ppm.
  5. Test Procedure :span>
    • a) Before each series of measurement, Check the aspirator pump for leakage with unopened tube.
    • b) If necessary please adjust the orifice in the aspirator to ensure that with tube the rate of aspiration for one Bulb Squeeze (50cc) will be 25-30 seconds.
    • C) Remove one callibrated tube from the packet and break off both tips, using the tube breaker hole on the bottom of the frame.
    • d) Squeeze out the air from the rubber bulb.
    • e) Insert the white portion of the tube (by using a gentle up and down motion to ensure positive seating) into the rubber bushing. Swing the plastic tube holder into position with the rubber bushing mounted on it to the other end of the tube i.e. on to the colored portion side.( Ensure that the arrow on the tube points towards the pump.)
    • f) Face the mounted tube into the atmosphere to be tested. Take sample volume by releasing the bulb syringe.
    • g) Carbon Monoxide if present changes the white color on the indicating layer to brownish green. Now the concentration in ppm on one stroke scale (N=1) is read. If the value is above 100 ppm the test is completed. However if the value is less than 100 ppm or there is no discoloration, the test should be continued with further nine strokes (i.e. total 10 strokes). Now read the concentration on the 10 strokes scale (N=10). The readings are clearly marked on the body of the tube.
    • h) After a negative result, the tube may be used up to 10 times on the same day only provided the tubes are air tight sealed( with rubber caps ) after each test.
  6. Precautions :span> During testing there should be sufficient light to ensure reliable reading of the length of stain tube.
  7. Chemical Reaction : span>The indication is based on a chemical reaction of carbon monoxide with Iodine Pentoxide , Selenium Dioxide and Fuming Sulphuric Acid.
  8. Temperature : span>The tubes can be used in a temperature range from 0 degree centigrade to 80 degree centigrade. Humidity has no influence on the reading indication.
  9. Influences :span> The interfering gases are retained in the cleansing layer. But with fairly high concentrations of readily cleaved halogenated hydrocarbons is observed that chromyl chloride is produced which changes the color of the indicating layer to yellowish brown.
  10. Self Life :span> Two years provided the storage temperature does not exceed 35 degree centigrade.
  11. Disposal :span> As it contains toxic chemicals the used tube should be disposed off properly.
  12. Warning :span> Because Aspirator Pumps made by different manufacturers may not operate at the same rate even when they draw the same volume, they should not be interchanged.
  13. Maintenance : span>The Aspirator should be wiped clean with soft cloth and kept in carrying case.

The self-contained mine self-rescuer is a chemical oxygen protection means dependent from the ambient atmosphere. It is designed to provide emergency respiratory and eye protection in oxygen deficient atmosphere or in the event of a lack of oxygen.
